Thursday, 25 April 2019: Rain and sunshine, lobster and steak

It’s raining this morning when we get off at the subway. We start with Florian, Daniela, Dario and Nicolas at Fortnum & Mason. In the more than 300 years old department store it is dry and warm. Florian and Daniela want to buy some tea – and so they are exactly at the right address here. Gabi also has her shopping list ready, too, with [Weiterlesen]

Wednesday, 24 April 2019: On the banks of the Thames

Today we leave the car and take the subway to the Tower of London. Here we meet Florian, Daniela, my Godson Dario and Nicolas. They are in London for the first time as a family, and Florian was here for the last time with Petr and me about 20 years ago. We are therefore all the more delighted to have been able to spend two [Weiterlesen]

Tuesday, 23 April 2019: Many ways lead to the UK

After the nice long Easter weekend we are back again: England, we are coming! And this time we want to try a new track. Because our usual way to England is via Strasbourg and there we are always in a traffic jam. This is bad for the travel time and the nerves. We leave at 10:00. Our new way leads us first into western Switzerland. [Weiterlesen]

Wednesday, 24 October 2018: Driving back home

Today we get up at 7am and are happy: It was a good idea to take a hotel here at Bluewater that is quite close to the Eurotunnel. On our last trip, it was so incredibly difficult to drive out of London. We first head to a Pret to get breakfast and some sandwiches, and make another stop at the Maidstone service station to buy [Weiterlesen]

Tuesday, 23 October 2018: Bluewater Shopping Centre

We do some more shopping in the Bluewater shopping centre on our last day in the UK. Gabi has already put together a wish list with beautiful clothes and other things for several shops in here, which she has researched in advance on the internet, or which were already on our shopping list. After doing the upper floor, we stop for lunch at Wagamama. I [Weiterlesen]

Monday, 22 October 2018: Meeting good friends in Aldershot

It’s beautiful autumn weather again! We were really looking forward to today, because we see our good friends Peter and Caroline and their son Jack again, who celebrates his 10th birthday tomorrow. First we meet Caroline for a mid-morning snack before we visit Costco together. As before, we’re suprised and astonished by the things – and packages – you can get there, including huge plush [Weiterlesen]

Sunday, 21 October 2018: A day of rest in Aldershot

Today, we sleep in a little bit and then drive to Aldershot for the second to last stop of our trip. The weather is simply wonderful and we enjoy the breakfast/lunch break in the sun. In Aldershot, we move into our hotel room, in which we have often stayed overnight. Then we want to go to the supermarket and do some grocery shopping. But the [Weiterlesen]

Saturday, 20 October 2018: Destination Star Trek

Today we visit the “Destination Star Trek” Convention in Birmingham. And it starts with a disappointment: Nichelle Nichols, who plays Lieutenant Uhura in the original series, doesn’t feel well and can’t participate today. I was looking forward to the photo with her a lot and put on my uniform from the Star Trek movies II-VII especially for her. Well, so I slip into my “Next [Weiterlesen]
