Friday, 16 October 2026: Clarks Village and meeting even more friends
Today we’re going to the Clarks Village Outlet Centre with our friend. I’m hoping to find some nice, yet comfortable, brown shoes to go with my new suit, but I’m in for a disappointment: Although the centre is situated on the site of the Clarks shoe factory and there’s a large shoe shop, the selection – apart from the many winter boots – is limited to a single pair of brown shoes in my size, which I already own and which are very uncomfortable. The search for the right shoes continues! Instead, we find lots of other lovely shops, many with a Halloween or even Christmas range already on display.

We’re having lunch at Wagamama. I’m having the chicken ramen, Gabi’s having the nasi goreng and our friend’s having a plate of noodles with prawns. We’re also ordering some bang bang cauliflower to share. Afterwards, we’ll head back. Gabi and I are doing the shopping at the supermarket: crisps, chocolate and all the other essentials you can’t get in Switzerland.

We unload everything at the hotel and set off again just before 6 pm. On the way to our friend’s place, we pick up our evening meal: two large bags of fish and chips from a particularly good chippie in Taunton. Sure, we need enought for everyone: Ollie and Felix have already arrived at our friend’s place and we’re really looking forward to finally meeting him. The two of them got married this year and make a really lovely couple.

The evening is over far too quickly, and it’s time to say goodbye to everyone. Tomorrow we’re off to London. We’ll miss Mickey the dog very much too. He comes down the stairs once more to say goodbye to us… or perhaps more likely to make sure we’ve gone so he can finally have some peace and quiet again. 😉
