Thursday 10 May 2018: Epilogue

As always upon returning from the UK, we take a box of donuts home and share them with Gabi’s mother and sister.

Wednesday 9 May 2018: Safely back at home

I go and get breakfast from Pret a last time, and food for the journey home, and enjoy the view of St Pancras station. We drive off at 8.40am… only to get stuck in traffic almost immediately. As we don’t really advance anymore, we try an alternate route, but without luck. All roads that lead to the expressway along the Thames are blocked due to [Weiterlesen]

Tuesday 8 May 2018: Afternoon Tea and Gin Workshop

No travel to London would be complete without a visit to Piccadilly Circus. That’s what we do on our last day of our holiday trip. The huge screen is still really impressive. We then stroll to Fortnum & Mason. We do some shopping until we meet Guy and Sheridan for an afternoon tea. Fortnum & Mason is very well-known for their afternoon tea and also [Weiterlesen]

Monday 7 May 2018: Cutty Sark, Greenwich and Wagamama

The sun is shining again today and it’s even warmer – or hot for British weather. It’s a bank holiday today which means that lots of people get to enjoy the beautiful day. We drive to Greenwich in the southeastern part of London. There’s a huge park around the Royal Observatory where the Greenwich Meridian and the Greenwich Mean Time were set, stretching down to [Weiterlesen]

Sunday 6 May 2018: Sunday roast with friends

We sleep in a bit today before heading to Waitrose in our former neighbourhood. The lady at the till probably thought whether we really only live on crisps and chocolate… but was too polite to ask. The stock we buy should last for half a year hopefully. We bring the groceries back to the hotel and drive to Hampstead Heath where Clare, Linda and Joke [Weiterlesen]

Saturday 5 May 2018: Oxford Street and Regent Street

The sun is shining again and it’s nice and warm. A beautiful shopping day! We park behind Selfridges and visit the large department store. Gabi has some make-up products on her shopping list, and as always, we visit the overwhelming shoe galleries on the second floor. The displays made of marble, cement and shoe spanners look great and on some occasions even better than the [Weiterlesen]

Friday 4 May 2018: Lego, sushi, friends, books and a porg in London

The sun is shining on our first day in London. We sleep in a bit and feel relaxed. We park behind the National Gallery near Leicester Square where we first visit the LEGO store. There’s an exclusive poster available for those with a black Star Wars VIP card (which I have), but I learn that you still have to buy GBP 30 worth of LEGO [Weiterlesen]

Thursday 3 May 2018: Cotswolds and arriving in London

Today, we’re blessed with sunny and warm weather that allows us to enjoy even more of the Cotswolds. The beautiful countryside makes us take several stops to admire it fully. It’s too early for lavender, but the rapeseed is in full bloom already. Unfortunately, many of the picturesque villages are overcrowded with tourists who park their cars in the middle of town, making the houses [Weiterlesen]

Wednesday 2 May 2018: Visiting the Morgan factory

We begin our day with a hearty breakfast: Gabi eats porridge while I have an English Breakfast. Now we’re ready to visit the Morgan factory! The Morgan Motor Company produces small sports car by hand since 1909. It’s the oldest car manufacturer that is still owned by the founder’s family, and the last car manufacturer to use frames made out of wood. AND the only [Weiterlesen]
