Usually, all our trips to the UK end with us eating a box of donuts together at Gabi’s mother’s house. You can’t get the American Krispy Kreme donuts anywhere in Switzerland. But this year, everything is different. Not only was our day off cancelled because of the flat tyre. Gabi’s mother had contracted Covid shortly after we left and is still testing positive. Derrick keeps his word. At 9 am he calls to say that our car is just being unloaded in front of the hotel – with the new tyre he organised this morning. He really is a sweetheart, and loves that he was able to help us and that we can now start the journey home. And so we do.           After an hour [Weiterlesen]

Today we’re driving back to Switzerland! Or so we think. Because an hour after setting off, a tyre pressure warning suddenly appears for the rear left tyre. Only 1.7 bar and soon 1.6 bar – something is wrong. We take the next exit and stop at the next opportunity. Pumping it up again doesn’t help… the air just won’t stay in. Today we make a leisurely day of it. We sleep in and head towards Camden in the early afternoon. But wow: there’s already someone here. That’s definitely too many people for us. We therefore forgo lunch at the many small food stalls of Camden Lock Kerb Market and continue to Camden High Street. We’re more fortunate meetin our friends today! In Seven Dials we meet Clare, Linda and her husband Derek from the USA, who had to wait all afternoon yesterday for their room in the new hotel, and Joke, who has travelled from Belgium. Ollie is also already on her way from Bristol. It’s nice to be back together again. We go for a drink in Covent [Weiterlesen]

Today starts differently than planned. Actually, we wanted to meet Clare and Linda and have just parked near their hotel when a text message arrives from Clare. The hotel had overbooked the rooms and now moved them to a partner hotel. They had just got into a taxi cab to the other hotel. Because of all the traffic and closed roads, which Google Maps doesn’t [Weiterlesen]

Our last few days’ shopping efforts were just a foretaste of today’s shopping trip to Oxford Street and Regent Street. We park next to Selfridges and start there. First with a perfume that Gabi is looking for, but which is apparently sold out everywhere. And also otherwise we don’t buy a lot. Today we say goodbye to Fleet and officially move to London. But not directly: we first drive to Battersea Power Station. The former coal-fired power station with its iconic chimneys, which can also be seen on the album cover of “Animals” by Pink Floyd with a large floating pig, has been converted in recent years into a mix of shopping centre, restaurants, flats and offices [Weiterlesen]

Today we drive to West London to visit the Science Museum in the afternoon. But before that, we go shopping in the nearby Westfield shopping centre. And it’s really huge!
