5 June 2017: Epilogue

The day after our return, we always visit Gabi’s mom and eat the box of Krispy Kream donuts that we have taken to Switzerland. Yesterday, they were already sold out when we got to our usual place. And in spite of stopping at every service station to look for our donuts, we failed to buy some. So they will have to make do with just [Weiterlesen]

4 June 2017: Driving back home

We start early to catch our train. After yesterday’s terror attacks in London, there’s a lot of police around and some of the London bridges are closed. Unfortunately, our satnav app still wants to guide us over them. In the end, we have to make quite a detour and cross Blackwall Tunnel to get to the southern side of the Thames and in the direction [Weiterlesen]

3. June 2017: Design Museum

On our last day in London, we visit the Design Museum. The new Range Rover Velar recently premiered in its entrance hall. The museum hosts all kind of design objects and gives insights into their backgrounds: Street signs, shoes, chairs, and much more. They also have a lot of Apple devices. 🙂 I particularly like the huge wall with the evolution of cameras, game consoles, [Weiterlesen]

2 June 2017: More shopping

We go on another shopping trip today, to Oxford Street. We make good progress and arrive at Selfridges soon. You could spend a whole day in this department store alone! But we advance well in here and soon find ourselves on the top floor having lunch. From all the variety of food on offer we choose… Gabi: a Nutella crèpe 🙂 Thomie: Sushi and an [Weiterlesen]

1 Juni 2017: Relaxing at Kew Gardens

Today, we will visit Kew Gardens together with Ollie and Lola. We stop by a bakery at the Gardens where we preordered a picnic hamper. We’ve been to this bakery before, when Jamie Oliver was there to promote their Maids of Honour tarts. We get a lot of boxes to take with us, wow! We come by an interesting structure soon: The Hive wants to [Weiterlesen]

31 May 2017: Shopping in London

We go shopping today! We park the car behind Top Shop and work our way down Carnaby Street towards Piccadilly Circus. I’m astonished at how targetet Gabi is. She is well prepared with a shopping list and knows exactly what she wants to buy – or at least look at – in each store. For example perfumes in our favourite department store Liberty. I could [Weiterlesen]

30 May 2017: Lego and afternoon tea

Today, we skip breakfast. We need to have an appetite for later in the day. But first, we hit the Covent Garden area. Then, we visit the new flagship Lego Store at Leicester Square which opened last Autumn. There are lots of lovely Lego decorations in the store. A life-size Lego tube train and an almost 😉 life-size Big Ben clock tower. In the upper [Weiterlesen]

29 May 2017: Lamborghinis in London

We start the day with a hearty breakfast at our hotel’s restaurant, together with Caroline. Around noon, we leave Aldershot and continue to London. We’ll stay at our usual Premier Inn St Pancras opposite the British Library. But we’re not heading for the hotel yet. Rumour has it that there’s something very special to see since Saturday and only until today. Great Britain’s first Lamborghini [Weiterlesen]

28 May 2017: Hey from Hay Festival

Today, we meet Clare and Linda and drive to Hay-on-Wye in Wales to visit the Hay Festival. This book festival in the small town with so many book stores is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year! We meet at Clare’s who now lives very close to Aldershot. Linda has just arrived as well. It’s taking us three hours to get to Hay. We cross the [Weiterlesen]
