Today we pick up Gabi’s sister from the airport. But Christine’s flight is delayed. Because of a possible problem with the plane, it had to be checked by an engineer. Today we meet our friend Caroline for breakfast in the garden centre. In England, garden centres are much more than just a place to buy plants and gardening tools. What a good opportunity for a proper English breakfast! We chat comfortably and are pleased to hear that things are going well for her and Peter and Jack. What would a holiday in England be without extensive shopping? That’s what we’re doing today at the Bluewater Shopping Centre. At the same time, LucY is charging at the Supercharger. Just like yesterday, the charging stations are located here and thus exactly where people spend time. Today we drive to our friend and her dog Mickey in Taunton. The road takes us past Stonehenge. And out here, tractors also seem to take the motorway. Together we visit the Hestercombe estate with its beautiful gardens and extensive park. And we are very pleased that Mickey recognises us right away and greets us cheerfully. On our first day in England, we take it easy. And I have to say: thanks to LucY, I feel much more relaxed and rested than usual after a long drive. Bye bye, petrol! Since our last trip to the UK, we’ve bought a new car and are now traveling electrically. And of course we have planned accordingly: We leave at 9 a.m., an hour earlier than usual. Because we have to take breaks on the way to recharge the battery. That takes longer than putting the tap in the tank. But we put up with [Weiterlesen]

Usually, all our trips to the UK end with us eating a box of donuts together at Gabi’s mother’s house. You can’t get the American Krispy Kreme donuts anywhere in Switzerland. But this year, everything is different. Not only was our day off cancelled because of the flat tyre. Gabi’s mother had contracted Covid shortly after we left and is still testing positive. Derrick keeps his word. At 9 am he calls to say that our car is just being unloaded in front of the hotel – with the new tyre he organised this morning. He really is a sweetheart, and loves that he was able to help us and that we can now start the journey home. And so we do.           After an hour [Weiterlesen]

Today we’re driving back to Switzerland! Or so we think. Because an hour after setting off, a tyre pressure warning suddenly appears for the rear left tyre. Only 1.7 bar and soon 1.6 bar – something is wrong. We take the next exit and stop at the next opportunity. Pumping it up again doesn’t help… the air just won’t stay in. With 1.3 bar we [Weiterlesen]
