We sleep in a bit today before heading to Waitrose in our former neighbourhood. The lady at the till probably thought whether we really only live on crisps and chocolate… but was too polite to ask. The stock we buy should last for half a year hopefully. We bring the groceries back to the hotel and drive to Hampstead Heath where Clare, Linda and Joke [Weiterlesen]
The sun is shining again and it’s nice and warm. A beautiful shopping day! We park behind Selfridges and visit the large department store. Gabi has some make-up products on her shopping list, and as always, we visit the overwhelming shoe galleries on the second floor. The displays made of marble, cement and shoe spanners look great and on some occasions even better than the [Weiterlesen]
The sun is shining on our first day in London. We sleep in a bit and feel relaxed. We park behind the National Gallery near Leicester Square where we first visit the LEGO store. There’s an exclusive poster available for those with a black Star Wars VIP card (which I have), but I learn that you still have to buy GBP 30 worth of LEGO [Weiterlesen]
Today, we’re blessed with sunny and warm weather that allows us to enjoy even more of the Cotswolds. The beautiful countryside makes us take several stops to admire it fully. It’s too early for lavender, but the rapeseed is in full bloom already. Unfortunately, many of the picturesque villages are overcrowded with tourists who park their cars in the middle of town, making the houses [Weiterlesen]
We begin our day with a hearty breakfast: Gabi eats porridge while I have an English Breakfast. Now we’re ready to visit the Morgan factory! The Morgan Motor Company produces small sports car by hand since 1909. It’s the oldest car manufacturer that is still owned by the founder’s family, and the last car manufacturer to use frames made out of wood. AND the only [Weiterlesen]
Today, the weather is better. What a relief! We’re driving westbound and will spend two nights in Gloucester on the western edge of the Cotswolds, an especially beautiful area near the border with Wales. We enjoy driving through the forests, along lush meadows with properly round sheep on them. The road takes us over hills and past gnarly trees and grey stone houses, typical for [Weiterlesen]
We meet Caroline in Guildford for a mid-morning snack. There’s a new branch of our favourite Hummingbird Bakery that needs to be tested. Sitting in a café having a cupcake is also the best you can do as it pours down with rain. Gabi has a red velvet cupcake, Caroline a glazed brownie, and I go for a raspberry cheesecake brownie. Wow, that’s rich!! We [Weiterlesen]
Today, Caroline is taking us to Costco. That’s a members only hypermarket with a huge variety of goods on offer. And it’s HUGE!!! There are big screen TVs, clothes, barbeques, croissants by the dozen, boxes with 4 dozen eggs, 1.3 kg sliced ham packs, and there’s even a jacuzzi waiting for a new owner. The huge racks remind us of Ikea. And so does the [Weiterlesen]
Today, we meet Caroline, Peter and Jack at Bluewater shopping centre. We like to spend one day here during each of our holidays to the UK. As always, we begin at the Lego store. They have a lot of new Lego sets on display, as Doctor Strange’s sanctum sanctorum and the Hulkbuster from the new Avengers “Infinity War” movie. Or the ship in the bottle [Weiterlesen]
We start off at 10.30am and enjoy the beautiful weather. It’s sunny and warm, but not too warm to spend the day in the car. We make good progress and cross the border with France one hour after our departure. We take it a bit slower than other times and arrive at the Eurotunnel terminal at half past six. Only to learn that the train [Weiterlesen]
