Today we take it easy. We sleep in, have a leisurely breakfast, and do a bit of charging for tomorrow. How practical: the petrol station where I charged on Tuesday also has a vacuum cleaner right next to the charging bays. There wasn’t enough time to do this before we left for the UK, so I do it now. We pick up our friend for [Weiterlesen]
Today we are travelling to Wells with our friend. Mickey the dog is staying at home. Yesterday’s trip was a bit much for him, so he’s looking forward to a quiet day at home with the dog sitter. Wells is a beautiful old town with a history dating back to Roman times. With a population of around 10,000, Wells is the smallest English town with [Weiterlesen]
Halfway to Taunton, we stop at Stourhead. Here we meet our friend and her dog Mickey and look forward to a lovely day in the beautiful landscaped garden. And we are not disappointed! Passing a small café and a few houses, we reach the Palladian Bridge, over which Keira Knightley ran in ‘Pride and Prejudice’. For the filming, mats had to be laid out on [Weiterlesen]
We’ve wanted to visit Windsor Castle for a long time. Today is the day. And it’s huge! No wonder it’s the largest continuously inhabited castle in the world. Around 200 people live here, including part of the royal family, the audio guide tells us. It provides lots of interesting facts about every public room in the castle and the chapel and is highly recommended. After [Weiterlesen]
After a picturesque drive through green forests, we arrive at a very special restaurant: The ‘Smith & Western’ is entirely dedicated to the Wild West theme. Here we meet Peter, Caroline and Jack for lunch. We are delighted to see our longest-standing English friends again. We chat about Doctor Who and other TV series and films, Jack’s progress in installing retro operating systems on all [Weiterlesen]
We didn’t hear from the tyre garage yesterday, but the Tesla app shows that the tyre pressure is okay again, so the new tyre must have arrived and been fitted. Great! So I return the rental car at 8 am with a good feeling. And I’m very glad that Caroline picks me up and drives me back to the hotel. The walk would have taken [Weiterlesen]
Today LucY is waiting for us with a low tyre pressure warning on the rear left tyre. The reason for this quickly becomes apparent when we want to pump in some air at the petrol station opposite our hotel: A huge screw is stuck up to its head in the tyre. Wow. We must have caught it somewhere along the way. But we’re in luck: [Weiterlesen]
England, here we come! After final preparations, we set off at 9 am. There is little traffic and we make good progress. One hour later, we cross the border to France in Basel and soon leave the motorway again. LucY prefers to drive as directly as possible. This is because the slower but more direct route consumes less electricity than detours via the motorway. We’ve [Weiterlesen]
From 6 to 20 September 2024, we’ve been on holiday in the UK. Here’s sort of a list what we’ve been up to. Friday, 6 September 2024: We’re off to the UK! Saturday, 7 September 2024: A glimpse into the future Sunday, 8 September 2024: A house call on the south coast Monday, 9 September 2024: No giant skeleton from Costco Tuesday, 10 September 2024: [Weiterlesen]
As we do after every trip to England, we drive to Gabi’s mum’s to eat the donuts we brought with her and Gabi’s sister. This time we actually manage the whole pack! Which has become easier since Krispy Kreme changed from boxes of 12 to boxes of 9. The photos show before and after. We did not only bring gifts for Gabi’s mum and sister, [Weiterlesen]
