Tuesday 24 May 2016: Railtown and driving to Yosemite National Park

(Thomas) Today, we’re continuing to Yosemite National Park. Our hotel there is not too far away so there’s time for a little detour. So we take one. I’ve recently read about a train museum on a Back to the Future fan page where the steam locomotive and some carriages from Back to the Future III may be seen. Gabi suggests we go there. Yes, honestly! [Weiterlesen]

Monday 23 May 2016: Sequoia National Park

(Gabi) Today was our first National Park day. Super exciting for me because I’ve never been to an American national park before. And Thomie had very fond memories from a childhood visit to Sequoia national park. Cool entrance sign. And today’s theme: Awesome gigantic trees. The Sequoia tree really is something else and to be in its presence  is rather humbling. Gorgeous view of the [Weiterlesen]

Sunday 22 May 2016: Driving to Sequoia National Park

(Thomas) Today, we’re leaving Los Angeles and head towards Sequoia National Park. But before all of that, we meet Liss, a friend of Gabi. She will show us a gymnasium. Not just some gymnasium, but the very place the ‘Enchantment under the Sea’ dance interior in the Back to the Future films was filmed. As you may remember, we’ve already visited the high school where [Weiterlesen]

Saturday 21 May 2016: Back to the Future filming locations

(Thomas) We’ve planned something very special for today. Or rather: I have. I’m glad that Gabi supports this – thanks! :-* We’re going to visit a lot of filming locations from my favourite movie of all time, Back to the Future. Yesterday, we already saw the real screen-used DeLorean Time Machine and on Thursday, we drove to the tunnel and the start line to find [Weiterlesen]

Friday 20 May 2016: Petersen Automotive Museum and Walk of Fame

(Gabi) Today was an interesting day: Loads of cars and stars (the Walk of Fame kind, no star sighting so far). There’s this super swanky car museum in Los Angeles called Petersen Automotive Museum. We had to go there because they have one of only three film used DeLoreans from Back to the Future. The museum building is super futuristic and quite cool. And there [Weiterlesen]

Thursday 19 May 2016: Warner Bros. Studio Tour

(Gabi) Today was clearly one of the highlights of our entire trip. We were about to visit Warner Brothers for a proper 2 hour studio tour. This was quite different from the Universal tour because this is no theme park, just a proper working studio and the tours are a little extra they offer on the side. People are hard at work here for shows [Weiterlesen]

Wednesday 18 May 2016: Universal Studios Hollywood

(Gabi) Yay, another day, another theme park! Today we visited Universal Studios Hollywood. In contrast to Universal Studios Orlando, which is only a theme park, this is also a working studio with 30 sound stages and a big backlot. Shows like the Mindy Project are currently being filmed there. Mandatory sign selfie. They’ve recently opened a Wizarding World of Harry Potter extension, which is a [Weiterlesen]

Tuesday 17 May 2016: Disneyland California Adventure

(Gabi) Today was another Disney day and this one was particularly exciting because we went to California Adventure, a park that is unique to California. It represents the different regions of the State and has a relaxed atmosphere. It certainly helped that this park was less crowded than Disneyland. What makes CA an instant winner is Cars Land. This is the best themed area I [Weiterlesen]

Monday 16 May 2016: Disneyland Park

(Gabi) Today was a great day because it was a Disney day!! I know the Disney parks aren’t everybody’s cup of tea but we adore them. Just a nice bit of escapism. Disneyland in Anaheim is particularly exciting because it’s the only park Walt Disney himself got to plan, walk and open. He died before Walt Disney World was finished. Disneyland is 60 years old [Weiterlesen]

Sunday 15 May 2016: Shopping in Santa Monica and arrival in Los Angeles

(Gabi) Los Angeles has always intrigued me. After all, it’s Hollywood and has been on my TV screen for as long as I can remember. Then there are the people saying L.A. isn’t even worth a brief visit and just all around terrible. So I was interested to see what the fuss is all about. It certainly helped that we  approached Los Angeles from one [Weiterlesen]
