29 May 2017: Lamborghinis in London

We start the day with a hearty breakfast at our hotel’s restaurant, together with Caroline.

Around noon, we leave Aldershot and continue to London. We’ll stay at our usual Premier Inn St Pancras opposite the British Library. But we’re not heading for the hotel yet. Rumour has it that there’s something very special to see since Saturday and only until today.

Great Britain’s first Lamborghini Centenario is on show at Lamborghini London before the buyer picks it up on Tuesday. It’s an anniversary Lamborghini to celebrate the 100th birthday of founder Ferruccio Lamborghini and very limited. There will be 40 Centenarios only – 20 Coupés and 20 convertibles. We saw a first one at the Geneve International Motor Show in 2016 when it premiered. But we’ve never been that close to one.

I especially like the large air intakes behind the doors – and the differently coloured details. There’s also a rear spoiler. In my humble opinion, every Lamborghini needs a rear spoiler.

The dealership would be closed today – it’s a bank holiday. However, there are employees inside who let interested people in to have a look. They are extremely kind and explain a lot about the car. We also have a peek at the other Lamborghinis in the show room. I love the red Countach which I liked as a child already.

As it starts to rain, we ditch our plans to do the flower walk left over from the Chelsea Flower Show. Maybe another day. We rather drive to the hotel and spend a relaxed afternoon.

When the rain stops again, we head out southbound on foot. Within a few minutes, we reach our former neighbourhood.

There’s a lot going on in the Brunswick Centre, even if some of the stores were empty. That was different when we visited last Autumn. Maybe a result of the bad economic conditions the United Kingdom has faced since the Brexit decision? But there are more restaurants than before. The people still have to eat! 😉

14 years ago, we had lived in this beautiful building behind the Brunswick Centre. We often visit the house and cherrish our memories from this time. We also look up our former flat on rental websites from time to time. It was refurbished recently and has sadly lost a lot of its charme.

After dropping off the groceries we bought in the supermarket at the hotel, we head out in the other direction to the train stations. There’s a wide variety of take-away food in there.

But first, we walk by Platform 9¾. The queue in front of the Harry Potter baggage trolley is longer than before! The ‘Cursed Child’ play (sold out until July NEXT YEAR!) and the ‘Fantastic Beasts’ film have contributed to the ongoing popularity of the the Harry Potter franchise.

In the end, we take two burritos, tortilla chips and two margheritas back to the hotel.
