Thursday, 26 October 2017: Visiting Jess and Star Trek in Blackpool
This morning, we visit our friend Jess and her father Ray near Liverpool. They showed us the Beatles’ hometown two years ago. Now, they invited us to their house in a charming, calm suburb. It’s exciting to catch a glimpse of what living in different countries looks like! We enjoy our conversations about British and Swiss habits, the local area’s history and everything and anything.
Time flies by far too quickly. We need to leave to get to Blackpool further up North in time. There, we want to visit the Star Trek Experience celebrating the 50th anniversary of Star Trek. The exhibition’s main focus lies on the original series but contains costumes and props from the other series too.
Here’s a selection of the exhibition: A screen-used tribble from the original series.
Spock’s headband used in the filming of Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home.
A gala uniform from Star Trek: The Next Generation.
Shoulder straps and colour samples from the Star Trek films II-VII uniforms.
A Klingon uniform.
A display of all the Enterprises.
A station used for filming.
The Next Generation shuttle “El-Baz” signed by many Star Trek actors.
The original series’ transporter room. The Star Trek Exhibition app allows beaming!
The original series’ bridge.
And the Captain’s chair and three uniforms from the new series Star Trek Discovery that has been on Netflix for some weeks.
And finally: exit through the gift shop… with horrendous prices.
On the way back to the hotel, we do some grocery shopping and later get a pizza for dinner. Which is gone really quickly.
