Monday, 29 April 2019: All about Gillian

Today we get up late and start the day slowly. With a breakfast/lunch at Giraffe in the nearby Brunswick Centre, next to where we used to live. I was looking forward to Huevos Rancheros, a kind of Mexican pizza, while Gabi orders a rice bowl. After dinner we do some grocery shopping again – the selection in the local Waitrose supermarket is better than in the branch yesterday – and on the way back to the hotel we pass by our former home.

In the afternoon we make our way to Leicester Square. Here we meet Clare, Sheridan and Amy, who watched Avengers: Endgame in the cinema. We planned to have an early dinner together. But Amy’s iPhone was just stolen by a trick thief. This sucks a lot. So we go with them to the Apple Store in Covent Garden in the hope of locking the iPhone from there and maybe taking further action. To engage an electric shock on the thief or something. Unfortunately, almost nothing can be done. The three therefore decide to drive back to Clares apartment, where Amy can use her iPad to lock the iPhone. So we say goodbye to the three of them and head to Shake Shack. Their cheese fries and milkshakes are just great.

Then we set off for the nearby theatre, where we watch “All about Eve”. In the play, Gillian Anderson, whom we know mainly as FBI agent Dana Scully from “The X-Files”, plays a famous theatre actress who is slowly getting older and a young woman sneaks in with the aim of taking her place. Both women and the other actors play great and the performance is made exciting – with some parts behind the stage, filmed and shown directly on a big screen, so that actions in different places are visible at the same time, for example in the bathroom or with the conversation partner while on the phone. Gabi and I have a box all to ourselves and Harry takes care of all our needs. After the show, Gillian signs programs and he makes sure that we are the first in line. Then she suddenly stands in front of us and I am so fascinated by her beauty and her presence that I hardly get a word out. Nothing about how I loved her performance, or why she’s such an important person in our lives* (see below). And far too soon, we’re already outdoors again and on our way back to the hotel.

* About 21 years ago, I started talking to Gabi in a chatroom because she used the nickname “Dana Scully” and The X-Files was one of my favourite TV series at that time. You know the rest! 😉
