1 Juni 2017: Relaxing at Kew Gardens
Today, we will visit Kew Gardens together with Ollie and Lola. We stop by a bakery at the Gardens where we preordered a picnic hamper. We’ve been to this bakery before, when Jamie Oliver was there to promote their Maids of Honour tarts. We get a lot of boxes to take with us, wow!
We come by an interesting structure soon: The Hive wants to teach about the life of bees. There are lots of plaques with information and bee sounds inside the Hive. I like it!
We then find a nice spot for our picnic. And love the selection of food inside the boxes! Sandwiches, quiche, sausage rolls, pastries, salad and sweets: scones with clotted cream and jam, and tarts. Which we don’t manage to eat after all the savory food.
After lunch, we continue to discover Kew Gardens. We soon encounter the Palm House. It’s really warm and humid inside – the palm tree’s favourite climate. There’s a stairway leading to the top of the middle part of the Palm House. The temperature rises with every step we take and it’s almost unbearably hot up there. We nevertheless enjoy the view from above.
Further west in the park, we get to the Treetop Walk, where we’re again at eye level with the top leaves of the trees. And spot London’s closest skyscrapers in the distance.
We cross the pond and slowly walk back to the entrance. But not without making a stop to sit on a bench and eat the tarts. 🙂
We arrive back at Oxford Street at around half past six and say goodbye to Ollie and Lola. Driving back to hotel, Gabi discovers a Mac ‘n’ cheese restaurant while we’re stuck in traffic. We turn left and look for a parking spot. What a coincidence: We find ourselves in North Gower Street where Sherlock lives. 🙂
We order a hearty version of Mac ‘n’ Cheese and eat it in the hotel, together with the picnic’s leftovers. What a beautiful, relaxing day!
