Sunday, 11 October 2026: Sunday Roast with friends

We’re taking it easy today. We sleep in and then pop into the big shopping centre next to our hotel for a light breakfast. And of course, we’re having a browse round the shops too. Unfortunately, the new folding iPhone Duo hasn’t arrived at the Apple Store yet. But we spot lots of brilliant sets in the Lego shop. At Lush, the range of adorable bath bombs has absolutely exploded! And of course, there are Halloween bits and bobs everywhere.

At a pretzel stall, Gabi spots an advert for the Back to the Future musical. But when we try to order the Infinity pretzel that is advertised, the employee gives us strange looks. “We don’t have those here,” he says. “Head office wanted us to put the sticker on, but they didn’t send the product.” Great (Scott). So we’ll just have to make do with a light lunch… with a different pretzel.

In the afternoon, we’re heading over to Clare and Dan’s house. They invited us over for Sunday roast. We’re absolutely delighted about the invitation, and of course about seeing Lincoln the dachshund again. Wow, he’s grown quite a bit since we last met! He’s so cute, the way he jumps about, and how he taps the door with a paw to let us know he wants to go out into the garden. It seems a mole has made a home there, and he wants to keep an eye on it.

The dinner is absolutely delicious. There’s roast beef, fried potatoes, peas and beans, carrots, pigs in blankets, cauliflower cheese and, of course, Yorkshire puddings and gravy. What a feast! After a lovely evening, we say goodbye to the three of them. We’re travelling on to Somerset tomorrow. And Clare, Dan and Lincoln are also heading off on holiday, to a campsite in Cornwall.
