Saturday 27 April 2019: Shopping with Caroline
Today we meet our friend Caroline for lunch at Selfridges department store, and for some shopping. Since our trip is rather short this time and we stay in London the whole time, we unfortunately can’t visit her and Peter and Jack in Aldershot. So we love that she comes to London so that we can spend some time together. We meet her in the Food Court of Selfridges with its Lebanese, Indian, Malaysian, Italian and English food. And crèpes. Gabi eats an Indian butter chicken, while I choose a Malaysian noodle dish with chicken (Char Kway Teow). Not in the picture is Caroline’s Nasi Goreng.
After dinner we stroll a little through the department store. We don’t really need anything, but we like to browse. In the shoe gallery I always admire the marble bases and concrete tables on which the shoes are presented.
Then we walk through more shops and look for a parking space near bookstore Foyles. Since our last visit many roads have been converted into cycle paths and are no longer accessible for cars. Together with the many one-way roads (which suddenly seem to have changed direction), navigating becomes more and more difficult. Finally we find our way through the many floors of Foyles down to the basement to the children’s books. And then it’s time to say goodbye again. We were very happy to see Caroline again.
From Foyles we drive to the Liberty department store, which is definitely one of our favourite places in London. There are always so many beautiful and unusual things to discover here! And with every visit, there is something new to see. This time it is a dark green jungle wall with many decorations that we would have liked to bring into our flat just as it is. Or the animal vases. Or the banana lamp. And the beautiful door handles in the shape of seahorses. It’s a pity that we don’t have double doors to attach them to.
We walk just up and down Regent Street before we call it a day. We are quite exhausted and just want to go back to the hotel. We get some dinner on the way and make ourselves comfortable in the hotel room watching Netflix.
