This morning, we’re doing some shopping again. After Oxford Street, we’re after Regent Street down to Piccadilly Circus. We come across a lot of nice things but only buy a t-shirt in the end. For lunch, we’re sharing a classic Italian Pizza at Pizza Pilgrim.

In the afternoon, we drive to the Tower Bridge. You may now climb the bridge’s towers and walk along the two connecting footpaths 43 metres above the Thames. There’s a glass floor in the middle of the bridge which provides a great view of the cars and people on the bridge.

Funny: They have lots of photos of other bridges and also one of the Kapellbrücke in Lucerne, just when we ask ourselves whether they also had one of a Swiss bridge.

At the end of the tour, we visit the old engine room. Huge steam engines produced the hydraulic power to lift the bascules. It’s incredibly impressive how they managed to build such a masterpiece of engineering back in 1886, some 130 years ago. The bridge still opens three times per day to allow larger ships to pass.

After the Tower Bridge Experience, we look for the pier where we’ll board a ship in one and a half week. And find it. Now, we head back to the Covent Garden area. We’re lucky to get a table at Hawksmoor right away without a reservation. Here, you eat meat. And tons of it. They recommend sharing a 700 grams porterhouse steak. Yeah, that would feed a family of five. We order a 400 grams rib-eye steak which still is plenty for us to share. It’s just the right size together with triple fried chips and mac & cheese, a cocktail and a small dessert.The meat is tender, juicy and full of flavour. We’ll come back another time!
