Friday 6 November 2015: Surprise!

Today, Gabi has got some surprises planned for me. First, we head to north-east London to ‘God’s own junkyard’. It’s a showroom of an old family company that produces neon signs and other advertising with lights. These are mere examples of what they can do, the seller explains to us. A lot is produced according to the customers’ specifications. Their neon art is often used in films or TV series or for photoshoots, he says. An incredible store!

From here, we drive to the north-western part of London. Unfortunately, the huge costume store isn’t as huge as advertised and mainly offers cheap costume sets for dressing up. Surprise no. 3 is a big hit again: The Bridge Cafe from BBC’s reality show The Apprentice that I like a lot. In this show, wannabe-businessmen in two teams compete against each other to become Lord Sugar’s new business partner. The losing team always comes to the Bridge Cafe to sulk, think about what went wrong and who should be fired. We don’t feel like losers at all but (I) wanted to come here for quite some time. We have a simple but nice meal.

Afterwards, we continue to Aldershot, where we do some grocery shopping at the supermarket before meeting our friends Caroline and Peter and their now seven years old Jack for dinner at Frankie & Benny’s. We have a lot of fun and look forward to meeting them again during the next days.
