Tuesday, 30 April 2019: A detour to Paris

Today we leave London and drive to Paris. We wanted to visit Disneyland Paris again for a long time. We used to go there quite often, but our last visit was seven and a half years ago. So we take the train through the Channel tunnel and drive the remaining 300 km to Paris. It’s on our way home, more or less.

We arrive at the hotel at 5pm. For the first time we stay at the Disneyland Hotel directly at the entrance to the park. As guests of this hotel we will be able to enter the park before all other people. The room is big and very nice and even has a small balcony.

So we leave our things in the hotel room and then head for the park. It is open until 10pm today. We stroll down Main Street to the castle and then turn into Frontierland. We get to the “Phantom Manor” ghost house and quite surprised: It should still be closed due to renovations which disappointed as a lot. But it’s open! So we immediately get in the queue! Hmm… but somehow nothing seems to have changed, which is a bit disappointing. And was the ride already over so fast in the past too?

We continue walking through the park; from the cowboys into the jungle, where I ride the Indiana Jones roller coaster, and on to the pirates. In the evening many of our favorite restaurants seem to be closed. So we head to Discoveryland for dinner and have a BB-8 meal with a burger and a dessert that looks a bit like a melted BB-8 (BB-8 is the orange, spherical droid from the new Star Wars movies). And interestingly, both exceed our rather low expectations. In the past, the food here in the park was mediocre at best. The burger is really good and there’s a chocolate mousse and a raspberry coulis hiding inside the dessert.

At dusk with all the lights, the park looks really magical. We enjoy the view for a bit, take a walk through Disney Village and then go to sleep.
