Thursday, 2 May 2019: Back to Berne

We intended a quick visit to the park again today before returning to Switzerland. But it is very cold and rainy outside and Gabi and I both have a cold already. Besides, check-out time is at 11am and not at noon. So it’s not really worth it. We nevertheless end up feeling like in the park in the hotel: We have to wait in line at the check-out counter for 20 minutes, because a Dutchman does not want to leave, but to extend his stay.

Then all the baggage is stowed in the car, we head to Earl of Sandwich and Starbucks to get something to eat for our journey home. And then we are on our way. Most of the time it’s cloudy or raining. Since in rain, the allowed speed limit in France is only 110 instead of 130 km/h, we decide to drive via Dijon again and then cross-country to Yverdon. This is not only the quicker route but allows us to avoid possible traffic jams in Strasbourg and Basel.

The sandwiches are really delicious: Gabi got a Tuna Melt and I a Philadelphia Cheesesteak. And it’s far more entertaining to drive through all of these different surroundings than just the boring old motorway we took so far. We really have to remember this way next time! Shortly after 6pm, we pass the Westside mall, so we even find time to get to the supermarket for fresh bread and milk.

Then we arrive at home and are really happy. And we are amazed again how many purchases we get out of all those bags! We really thought that we had hardly found time for shopping!
