Saturday, 14 September 2024: Taunton Twilight

Today we take it easy and explore a few shops at our leisure. Here, too, the Halloween stuff is already out everywhere, some of it even Christmas items. After the huge hobby market, where I would have loved to buy everything straight away, other shops have great furniture and furnishings, probably five times as much as all the Swiss shops, and other great and sometimes a bit crazy decorative items. But of course, there are certainly people who have always wanted a vase or one in the shape of a dog’s head or an anatomically correct heart.

After lunch at McDonald’s, we have a quiet afternoon at the hotel. For dinner we go back to Catherine and Dee’s house. We ordered food from ‘Eat the Bird’. Gabi has wanted to try their chicken for a long time, ever since we saw them in a fast food competition on TV. Their chicken sandwiches are really delicious.

Mickey the dog is still exhausted from the trip to Tintagel. He also had to bark at so many other dogs! And, of course, it was extra exhausting for him as the wind was blowing so hard. We leave him at home and visit Taunton Twilight together, which is being staged for the first time. It’s a really cute festival, with lots of activities and discovery opportunities for children. The highlight is an aerial acrobatics and fire show. We have a slice of cake and a cup of tea before returning to the hotel.
