29 October 2014: Driving to the UK
Two and a half weeks Great Britain! Usually, we don’t spend that much time over here. We’re excited and looking forward to our holidays. After last preparations, we leave home at 9.40am.
Despite lots of traffic, we make good progress. One hour after departure, we cross the border with France. Oops: hidden speed trap. Besides that, our journey goes on without problems. We listen to Neil Patrick Harris reading his autobiography and arrive in Calais without the usual ‘are we there yet?’ feeling.
There’s a lot going on at the Eurotunnel train station. We have rarely seen that many cars here. Our call comes quick, though, and we head towards the train. Which leaves earlier that expected. Nice!
35 minutes later, we’re on the British motorway and one and a half hours away from the hotel. Just when we get excited about arriving really early: congested traffic. It’s the M25 and still rush hour. Dammit.
At about 8pm, we finally get to the hotel in Aldershot, where I have to take a nap for a bit. My headache is killing me. I feel a lot better later and we quickly drop by Morrison’s before taking a pizza to the hotel.
