14 November 2014 (Afternoon): London Southbank
We arrive in the Southbank area mid-afternoon. We have tickets for a talk in the evening around here. The weather is fabulous – as it was during most of our journey. We enjoy the silence and having nothing to do and spend a very relaxed last day of our holidays.
During sunset, London appears at its best. Above: the London Eye. Below: the Parliament with Big Ben tower.
Lots of people walk along the Thames and there are many food stalls around. Exactly what we’re looking for to have a late lunch/early dinner. Gabi eats a Po Boi sandwich with brisket just as we had it in New Orleans.
I discover a Polish stall that has Bigos on offer, a traditional sausage and cabbage stew. I’ve eaten it once at a culture festival in Switzerland and wanted to have more ever since. Omnom!
It gets dark quite early. The city’s lights that are reflected in the Thames make London look even more enchanting. We slowly stroll along the river bank.
There’s a public viewing gallery on top of the OXO tower! We certainly have a look from up there.
