Thursday, 22 September 2016: Eleven hours to London
We leave at 10 in the morning and make good progress. The weather is ideal for driving: cloudy with some sunny patches. We make several stops on our way through France to stretch the legs and buy French crisps and ice cream.
The little plastic box beside our rear view mirror is doing a great job. We’ve got it last year. With its help, we don’t need to stop to pay road tax in the French motorway. It beeps as we go through and deducts the amount from my bank account.
Minutes before 6, we arrive in Calais where we have to wait less than fifteen minutes for our train under the Channel. We’re right on schedule!
And we’re on the British motorway. While the sun sets on the horizon, we head towards London. One and a half hours to go. It’s almost dark as we drive through Blackwall Tunnel beneath the Thames to the Northern part of the city. It’s not far to the hotel now.
At eight, we’re in our room. We quickly head back out to get something for dinner and then fall asleep.
