Friday 23 September 2016: Meeting friends and a preview of Sherlocked
We slept very well and have recovered from the long drive. We meet Clare, Linda, Sheridan with husband and baby and Amy for breakfast at Giraffe at Westfield Stratford City Shopping Centre where our hotel is situated. And I like my breakfast quite a lot: the fried eggs, the bacon… somehow everything tastes better than at home.
After breakfast, we stroll through the shops for a bit before we head back to the hotel to relax some more. Later, we meet everyone again at Excel to get the tickets for the weekend. We’re here for the Sherlocked convention, an event around the BBC television series Sherlock with Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman.
The doors open at 6 to allow us a preview of the still quite empty halls. There are areas where photos will be taken, tables where actors give autographs, a hall with seats and a stage where actores and producers will hold talks, and a museum area with costumes and props from the show. We’ve preordered Furlock, the event’s official bear.
We now take the air line cable car from the Excel to the O2 formerly known as the Millennium Dome. We had made fun of these cable car line but not anymore. The view from up there is really magical.
The dozen of us take over Mexican restaurant Chiquito. Gabi and I share chorizo croquettes and a chimichanga, a kind of fried burrito with chips.
After an evening full of fun, we take the Tube back to our hotel. We haven’t used the Tube in quite some time.
