Saturday, 24 February 2018: Monza cancelled, early journey home
Today, I was booked to attend a Lamborghini driving experience on the famous Formula 1 race track of Monza – the main reason for our Italy trip. Unfortuntely, the organisers cancelled the event yesterday due to ice on the track. Although everyone’s safety has to be top priority, it’s still a shame. Especially as it’s really warm in Milan today (8 °C / 46 °F) so I can’t imagine ice anywhere. We decide to travel back home one day early – also because the weather forecast predicts a lot of snow in the Canton of Ticino for Sunday. It’s better to be gone before the snow starts.
We make a stop in Como and then drive along the picturesque Lake Como. The weather is great and we enjoy driving past all the houses and mansions along the mountainside a lot. It’s a pity there aren’t more vista points where we can stop and admire the view.
In Argegno, we turn left and drive up the mountain and down the other side to Lake Lugano. We follow the coastal road counter-clockwise until we reach Lugano. What a great drive!! In Lugano, we have lunch at a restaurant located at the shore. I finally get a pizza while Gabi discovers a chestnut risotto she can’t resist.
After lunch, we stroll through the lovely old town of Lugano and have a gelato before continuing on our journey home.
We cross the Gotthard tunnel shortly before 6pm and it’s already dark when we leave the tunnel on the other side.
The journey to Lucerne and back home goes really smoothly. It’s easy to make good progress at this time of day. We arrive back at home around 8pm and look forward to the unexpected free Sunday at home.
The Lamborghini driving experience most probably isn’t cancelled for good, but delayed to a later date yet to be determined. We might give it another try in spring/summer.
