Friday, 7. October 2011: Disneyland Paris

We’re glad that Disneyland Paris only opens at 10am. We sleep late and make the short way to the entrance completely relaxed. Inside the park, there’s not as much Halloween decoration as we imagined. Contrary to former years, there’s no pumpkin extravaganza, cobwebs, bats or ghosts. There are only some pumpkins in Main Street and in front of the castle. Pity!

After a chocolate bun and a Halloween show with Disney villains, we change parks. But not without paying a visit to “our” stone on the Disney boardwalk.

In the Walt Disney Studios we watch the stunt show “Moteurs… Action” with drifting and jumping cars and bikes. They’ve now added a visit by Lightning McQeen, the star from “Cars”. It’s beautifully made but doesn’t seem able to drive faster than walking speed.

After the stunt show, we go to see “Animagique”: When Donald runs out of ideas while drawing comics, he sneaks into the archive where he encounters pink elephants, fishes, King Louis and Balu from the Jungle Book as well as other comic characters. It’s a lovely show we don’t get tired watching several times.

Now, we’re back to the Disneyland park. We systematically stroll through all of the park’s parts and shops, do some rides – queues are short when it’s that cold – and have lunch at Colonel Hati’s Pizza Outpost.

Afterwards, we keep soaking up the cheerful atmosphere in the park.

At 6pm, the park closes for regular visitors. We on the other hand got tickets to Mickey’s Not-so-scary Halloween Party and are allowed to stay. Only half of the park stays open and the darker it gets outside, the more people are wearing costumes. Some of them are very elaborated, some quite simple… as are ours, but at least it’s a costume.

Dinner options are limited, too. Only four restaurants are still open. We’re having a (rather uninspired) Hot Dog (Gabi) and delicious and realy meaty Spare Ribs (Thomas).

During the course of the evening, two shows are being performed three times each. But not on regular stages but as street performances. Which means that you can’t see anything unless you’re in the front row. We skip the first performance and arrive for the second one reeeeeeeally early. Minnie’s Pirate Halloween Party is lovely done with dancing pirates who teach an easy choreography to children (e.g. pirate salutation, pirate dance, fencing).

We’re rather cold after the show thanks to the freezing temperatures. We choose not to wait an hour for the next show and another hour for the main event. We’d get a huge cold for sure. Back to the hotel.
