After a freezing night in the hotel, we pack up as fast as possible and drive to Disneyland. We’re spoiled with a beautiful, sunny day. Together with the hot chocolate and improvised breakfast, we finally get warm again. We move counterclockwise through the park; Discoveryland, Fantasyland, Adventureland and Frontierland, have lunch at the Cowboy Cookout Barbeque barn (not as good as it used to be) [Weiterlesen]
We walk up and down Oxford Street in search of a dress for Gabi for Isa and Reto’s wedding. The right size seems to be sold out everywhere. We finally have to give up and get back to the hotel. After checking out, I load the (now much heavier) baggage and Gabi into the car. We drive out of the city crossing Oxford Circus, Regent [Weiterlesen]
We take the bus to Piccadilly Circus to get our theatre tickets. We then stroll about Piccadilly Circus, Covent Garden and Neal Street before having lunch in an Italian restaurant opposite the theatre. Great, cloth napkins and the best Pizza we ever had in London. Excitedly (I am, Gabi not so much), we cross the street and enter the theatre. Here, we are greeted by [Weiterlesen]
We sleep late and have breakfast at the hotel. Mmmmh… Full English breakfast again for me. We go to Selfridges again and continue down Oxford Street (New Look, Monsoon, Disney Store, Top Shop and some more) before having lunch at the Masala zone – as every time we’re in London – off Carnaby Street. Then, we’re heading down Regent Street (Hamley’s Toy Store) in search [Weiterlesen]
After saying goodbye to Caroline, Peter and Jack and some more shopping, we continue our journey. Driving into central London didn’t prove to be that difficult. Watch out for the traffic on the other lanes, pedestrians, bicycles and most of all black cabs and doubledecker buses, then you’re fine. On the way into town, we passed the Millenium dome (now the O2 arena), the London [Weiterlesen]
We run crazy at Bluewater together with Caroline, Peter and Jack. The supposedly largest shopping center of Britain really is huge and offers almost anything one can think of. About five hours later, we’re on our way back to the car with bags from the Lego store, Hollister, Belt Buckle Shop and Krispy Kreme and stuffed with hot chocolate, Nando’s lunch and a Kinder Bueno [Weiterlesen]
After getting up early, we decided to skip the expensive hotel breakfast and head for Aldershot. When we finally found a convenient service area, Gabi had a Starbuck’s hot chocolate and a croissant while I opted for a KFC lunch. Near London, we were hit with bad wheather and traffic jams again and arrived in Aldershot early in the afternoon. After some freshening up, we [Weiterlesen]
In the morning, we visit the huge Bullring shopping centre. Everything is so different from Switzerland. You enter the Selfridges clothes department and immediately see lots of clothes you want to buy – you don’t have to look for something that is wearable among terrible clothes. There’s a first small Lush mini-meet in the Hotel Chocolat store – great minds think alike. And then, we’re [Weiterlesen]
On the way from Canterbury to Birmingham, we have to drive around London. Which is bad. We got stuck in traffic jam after traffic jam due to constructions and accidents. We stop for petrol, toilets and some food – two Krispy Kreme doughnuts. We then continue our journey through rainy weather and more traffic jams. In the end, it takes us six hours instead of [Weiterlesen]
On our way to Birmingham, we stop at Canterbury, home of the famous cathedral which the pilgrims in the Canterbury Tales could not wait to get to. It is really a fantastic, beautiful building right in the middle of the picturesque old town of Canterbury. Well worth a visit if you find yourself in the south-east of England. We visited the grounds, the quire and [Weiterlesen]
