Wednesday 11 May 2016: to Santa Cruz via Cupertino
(Gabi) We had another super geeky day planned because we were heading off to visit Apple headquarters in Cupertino!
On the way there we just had to drive by the construction site of the new Apple Campus 2. It looks like an Apple spaceship has landed in the middle of Cupertino and sneaking a little peek was kind of thrilling. Steve Jobs was heavily involved in the planning of the place right before his death, so it’s kind of special.
Here we are at the ‘old’ Apple headquarters at 1 Infinite Loop. You can’t really go in, but the building is pretty and there were loads of Apple fans taking pics.
The building also has an Apple store that is open to public and sells some Apple merchandise that you can’t get anywhere else. We couldn’t resist buying a couple of t-shirts.
We had a lunch at a sandwich place called Ike’s Place, which sells an endless variety of freshly made sandwiches. We enjoyed a buffalo chicken one. Yummy but hard to eat because there was SO MUCH sauce.
Video: driving from Cupertino to Santa Cruz:
After a beautiful scenic drive along the coast (video see above). We checked in at our lovely cozy hotel in Santa Cruz.
It’s a former motel with very nicely refurbished and decorated rooms. The big walk-in shower was particularly great.
Dinner was extra special. We wen’t out on a wharf with loads of little restaurants and picked a place we liked the look of (with good Yelp reviews). After some pondering Thomie decided to go for the lobster tail. None of us had ever had lobster, so this was very exciting. And even though I’m really not into seafood, I really enjoyed the lobster meat. I often can’t stand the texture of fish or seafood but this was almost meaty. Thomas had fun eating it and we agreed that it was worth the price, especially because we don’t get lobster at home.
