27 May 2016: Last vacation day in San Francisco and flying back

(Gabi) Travel day! Ugh, never my favorite because I hate airports and am a nervous flyer.

But we found a way to distract me by going into town one last time.

Because Apple had just opened an amazing new flagship store and you know that Apple kind of makes us happy.

The store was as glorious as anticipated and I loved every bit of the architecture. The Genius bar has been replaced by the so called Genius Grove, with loads of trees.

But my favorite was this terrace area behind the store, with loads of tables and trees. They explicitly want people to come there, use the wifi and just hang out for a bit. Plus they put on concerts and talks there. Rather cool and an interesting store concept, in my opinion!

We really liked San Francisco airport because it’s not too big, TSA was friendly, thorough and efficient and you don’t have to walk miles and miles to get to your plane. Would happily fly there again!

Lunch was this burger in the airport terminal which did the job but wasn’t amazing. I only nibbled on a few chips as my anxiety had killed my appetite.

Our plane was already waiting for us when we got to the gate. Boarding was quick and painless.

Settled in and ready to go. The planes they use for the SF-Zurich route are rather old and the onboard entertainment doesn’t work properly. Mine didn’t work at all, sadly. So no movies for me.

Taking off.

Cute pre-dinner nibbles.

Pretty mountain views.

Plane food: chicken in a creamy mushroom sauce with carrots and noodles. Not a culinary highlight but quite filling. The little brownie for dessert was nice. They switched the lights off straight after dinner and we pretty much fell asleep immediately. I think we both managed a good 6 hours of sleep, which is pretty amazing. I did wake up occasionally, particularly after some bloke had fainted in the aisle next to me. But he soon recovered and I went back to sleep. When we woke up, there were only 3 hours of flight left to go. Pretty relaxing experience really and the crew was super lovely. Swiss is a good choice for long-haul flights.
