Tuesday, 30 May 2023: Relocation to London

Today we leave Fleet and move to London for the rest of our holidays. On the way there, we stop off at the Westfield White City shopping centre to give LucY’s battery another full charge: Here it has the most central Tesla Supercharger in London. But where? There are no signs, and the several car parks are so huge and winding that you can’t find them without help. Only after asking the car park attendants twice do we finally find it in Car Park A on level Minus 2 near Lift Lobby 3.

Although LucY charges quickly, we stay a little longer: There is a really nice selection of shops here – almost all the ones we still wanted to visit in the city centre. Moreover, they are close together here and there are only a few people, even though it’s the school holidays. All the better! Lunch is also great: the Wahaca branch still exists here. And so we soon fill our stomachs with various Mexican tapas. Mmmmmmh!

But now we drive on to the hotel. It is no longer the Premier Inn where we used to stay for many years. Guests can no longer park there. After a lot of research, Gabi has booked a hotel in the Spitalfields district, which is quite central. The rooms look fun, just like the photos on the internet, but at second glance very impractical.

But we don’t stay long here, just unload our luggage and drive back into the city centre. We park behind the Opera House at Covent Garden and then visit Forbidden Planet first. And are a little disappointed: in the science fiction, fantasy and comic shop, the plastic figures have taken over even more. Anime figures from another manufacturer have joined the ranks. They now make up half of the stock, while many other film and TV memorabilia are no longer stocked at all.

One bright spot, however, is the milkshake at Hotel Chocolat just across the street: Chrige had been looking forward to this for a long time. We continue our walk along the many small shops of Neal Street and around Seven Dials. Gabi unerringly finds the mural with the Lego Space mini-figure that I had seen on the internet a few weeks ago. That’s why I’m wearing my matching T-shirt today.

We continue towards Piccadilly Circus and Leicester Square before slowly walking back to the car and driving to the hotel. On Regent Street, I see a particularly rare super sports car drive past: Only seven of the Koenigsegg One:1 with 1’360 hp and 1’360 kg weight (therefore 1:1) were built.

On the way to the hotel we buy a pizza… an American pizza, Detroit style. It has an extra thick dough and is quite special, but very fine.
