Monday, 30 October 2017: Back in London
This sunny morning, we drive past our old place and through our neighborhood into town.
We make another attempt to visit the Japan Center. It has been exactly one week since they told us that the broken lift would be repaired “the same day”. The “Out of order” sign is still in place though. We complain to the manager and can finally use the goods lift to get to the basement where the center is located. There are lots of fresh and boxed groceries, many take away food boxes and a small restaurant that serves ramen and similar dishes. Gabi shops quite a bit and we also have lunch there. I get a huge plate of sushi, Gabi a curry bun.
Then, we walk past Trafalgar Square and Leicester Square and visit the LEGO store once more. I don’t recall seeing the Saturn V rocket on display! It’s a beautiful model and I’m still astonished how you achieve a round model using square bricks. The rocket comes with the lunar module and two tiny astronauts.
We then spent some time at Piccadilly Circus looking at the new advertising screen that has been put into operation in the meantime. Instead of the former separate screens, it’s now one huge screen that allows for different display modes. The basic mode contains of six different ads visible at the same time. They are all the same length and do a clockwise rotation once they are done. So every ad will come to the prime spots (top right and bottom left) where they are displayed at twice the width of a regular ad. But there are also full-screen ads or almost full-screen ones with stacked smaller ads to the left and right. I could sit here all day and watch the ads.
We take a break in a small park and eat the cinnabon we bought at Piccadilly Circus earlier. Omnom!
We continue our way through the city and meet Sheridan, Ann, Amy, Clare and Amy at a small café. We talk a lot about the Sherlocked convention and think about ideas how to improve the event… as this year, there were no lead actors or special photo opportunities (apart from the Aquarium) or great decoration or props. We agree on taking over event management for the next year! 😉
For dinner, we meet Sheridan and Ollie at Wagamama and spend a lovely evening. Gabi orders Gyoza, Tori Kara Age and cauliflower on a spicy sauce while I try another ramen than my usual.
