Thursday 5 November 2015 (evening): fireworks on Europe’s tallest building

The Shard is Europe’s tallest building. We’ve booked a space on their viewing platforms (one indoors and one outdoors). We hope for a great view of the Guy Fawkes Day fireworks and spot a lot of smaller, private fireworks going off here and there as well as a huge bonfire. It’s reminding us a lot of our own national holiday on 1st of August. But we even get a bonus: I discover a ship on the Thames that seems to be too big to pass under the Tower Bridge. If I see correctly, it’s the very same ship we’ll be on Saturday next week on a river cruise with the City Swiss Club London, a replica of a Mississippi steam boat. I’m right: Shortly after, the Tower Bridge’s bascules open, let the ship pass and close just before the official fireworks start. Great timing! And what a view! It’s a great last evening in London before we begin our tour around Britain tomorrow.
