Monday 2 November 2015: Selfridges and Oxford Street

Today, we’re up for some serious shopping. We begin at the west end of Oxford Street and make our way east. Until we get stuck at Selfridges. Their Christmas shop takes up almost the entire fourth floor. But we like to browse through the other floors as well. There’s so much to see! On the lower ground for example, there’s a goat mascot for an action cam Gabi used to translate texts for. And there’s a wide variety of food in Selfridges’ restaurant. Instead, we order a Nutella crèpe. Which is huuuuge! It easily makes up for lunch for both of us. Yummy!

We continue our shopping trip and make good progress. We’re astonished once again by what London has on offer. A shoe store sells very special Star Wars shoes for women, for example with an R2-D2 or a lightsaber (with light and sound!) heel.

After 4pm, we finally get hungry again. We discover a charming Caribbean restaurant at Kingley Court where I order jerk chicken with sweet potato mash and jerk gravy while Gabi has a jerk chicken burger and sweet potato fries. Both is excellent, tender and spicy and full of flavour.

Meanwhile, it has gotten dark outside. The Christmas lights at Oxford Street are on since yesterday and look really pretty. We have only got a few stores left on our list. At Disney Store, the main theme is Star Wars. Of course. But it’s a pity: Their offer mainly aims for children between three and eight. There are no t-shirts that would fit my eleven years old godson… or me, for that matter. Disappointing. At least, I could sit on Rey’s speeder from the upcoming Star Wars film The Force Awakens.

We continue to shop until shops close at 8pm. Due to our very late lunch, we’re still not hungry. We take home a small sushi selection and a sandwich. Wow, there are quite a lot of shopping bags to unload from the car! We’ll continue tomorrow. 🙂
