13 November 2014: Lego artist, Covent Garden and Soho
Let’s have some more culture today! Nathan Sawaya builds art out of Lego bricks. The exhibition ‘The Art of the Brick’ shows an enormous amount of his Lego sculptures which are more than impressive. There are really big ones, e.g. a life-size T-Rex sceleton, but also very small ones. I still wonder where he got than many Lego bricks, and, can I get some as well?
The exhibition is located in the cellar of a (former?) brewery near Brick Lane. There are several food stalls in the courtyard – one man enterprises that cook food in a very confined space. But some with very long queues. We go for a South American Pabellon with pulled beef, tomato, guacamole and plantain chips. 🙂
We then drive back to the city centre and leave the car behind Covent Garden. Which is decorated very beautifully as well.
We stroll into Soho and visit the new Foyles book store (while other stores had to close down, Foyles was able to expand!). It’s the biggest amount of books I’ve ever seen – apart from maybe some big libraries. Wow! We could buy a lot in here but restrict ourselves to just some few books. As you know: there’s not much space left in the car.
All the cooking and bakery books made us hungry! But as we’re near Hummingbird Bakery, we stop by there for a little snack.
In the evening, we get take away German currywursts at ‘Herman ze German’ and eat them in the car. It’s impossible to find a parking spot here as all the parking spaces are restricted to local residents.
