5 November 2014 (morning): Stonehenge

We’ve wanted to visit Stonehenge for quite some time now. There’s a modern visitor centre with a huge exhibition (open since today only!) where we learn that there had been a wider circle with wooden pilars long before the stones arrived. And possible explanations to who, how and why the stones were put there. We’ve already seen them from a distance when we drove closer. They’re standing in the middle of nowhere in a wide plain. It really raised the questions as to how someone came upon erecting wood and stone circles right here.

There’s a convenient Land Rover land train to the stone circle. An audioguide explains everything about every stone… as long as you dare to listen. There’s a mean cold wind and the path around the stones doesn’t seem to end.

They do look impressive, these big stones!

Exit through the Gift Shop: The British have learnt from the Americans and outperformed them by far. Besides t-shirts, sweatshirts and hats, there are all kind of things bearing the ‘Stonehenge rocks’ slogan including beers, wines, spirits, a jewelery section, vases and other household items, and much much more.
