Thursday, 15 May 2025: A pleasant drive to the UK
England, here we come! After final preparations, we set off at 9 am. There is little traffic and we make good progress. One hour later, we cross the border to France in Basel and soon leave the motorway again. LucY prefers to drive as directly as possible. This is because the slower but more direct route consumes less electricity than detours via the motorway. We’ve learnt from our last few trips that it gets us to our destination just as quickly!

We make our first charging stop on the other side of the Vosges in Saint-Dié-des-Vosges and a second in Saint-Dizier. In both places it’s only a short stop, just enough for a trip to the toilet – the first stop at a Burger King and the second at a hotel. This one is very close to a large military airport where French fighter planes land every few minutes.

At Reims, we turn back onto the main motorway. After a third loading stop at a service station, we reach the Eurotunnel terminal in Calais at around 6 pm.

Here we are amazed: it’s never been this quiet before! We can head straight to customs clearance and the waiting area, and are soon waiting on the platform ready to board the train.

The journey under the English Channel takes 30 minutes. I use this time to clean the windscreen of all the insects. Although it’s not that bad this time. There’s also enough time to answer a few emails, write messages and make a phone call with some great news – you can look forward to it and be happy for me!

Construction fever has broken out on the English motorways! Time and again we come across long stretches of motorway with 80 km/h restrictions. So the journey to the charging station, to the motorway service station for a bite to eat at Nando’s and the last section to the hotel in Fleet takes a little longer. We arrive safely at half past nine. I unload the luggage and take LucY to the Supercharger for the last time today. Hopefully we’ll have enough charge for the trip tomorrow. Good night!
