Friday, 20 September 2024: Switzerland, here we come!

Today we get up earlier than usual. We want to get home. At 8.45 am, all the luggage and shopping bags are stowed in the car and we bought sandwiches for the journey. We set off and make really good progress. On the way to Folkestone, we stop at the Maidstone service station to get donuts.

We arrive at the Eurotunnel terminal in Folkestone shortly after 10 am, more than in time for our booked train. The terminal is very busy. While we wait, we charge LucY at the Supercharger. Then it’s our call to head to the train. From the terminal, we drive through passport control to the waiting area and soon board the train. We set off at half past eleven, losing one hour due to the time zones.

I eat my first sandwich during the crossing. Then we arrive in France. For the first stretch, we take the large motorway to Saint Quentin. We make our first charging stop at the Supercharger in the supermarket car park, where we also charged on the outward journey.

We continue on smaller motorways to a hotel in Saint-Dizier. Here we charge for the first time at one of the new Superchargers. We feel that it’s faster, but maybe it’s just a feeling. After we return from the toilet, LucY is almost ready to drive on again.

When we make our third loading stop at 7.30 pm, it’s already getting dark. I eat another sandwich and clean the windscreen again, as I do at every stop. The French flies are simply the worst. Bringing my own windscreen cleaner proves a very good idea once again.

We cross the Vosges tunnel and drive past Colmar and Mulhouse before crossing the Swiss border. From here it’s slow going – a row of cars all the way to Bern. We arrive home shortly after 10 pm. We were travelling for a good twelve hours.

On our two-week trip, we travelled 3,545 km (2,200 miles) and consumed 663 KWh.
