Saturday, 21 September 2024: Epilogue

As we do after every trip to England, we drive to Gabi’s mum’s to eat the donuts we brought with her and Gabi’s sister. This time we actually manage the whole pack! Which has become easier since Krispy Kreme changed from boxes of 12 to boxes of 9. The photos show before and after. We did not only bring gifts for Gabi’s mum and sister, [Weiterlesen]

Friday, 20 September 2024: Switzerland, here we come!

Today we get up earlier than usual. We want to get home. At 8.45 am, all the luggage and shopping bags are stowed in the car and we bought sandwiches for the journey. We set off and make really good progress. On the way to Folkestone, we stop at the Maidstone service station to get donuts. We arrive at the Eurotunnel terminal in Folkestone shortly [Weiterlesen]

Thursday, 19 September 2024: Westfield and getting ready for the journey home

On our last full day in England, we sleep in. Today we stay here, e.g. instead of driving into Central London, we wander through the Westfield Shopping Centre, in the middle of which our hotel is located. The hotel, which is different from our usual one, is proving to be very good so far. We especially enjoy having a mini-fridge. We walk up and down [Weiterlesen]

Wednesday, 18 September 2024: Back to the musical

Gabi said yes: We can go to the Back to the Future musical (again). We have booked tickets for tonight. But first we start the day at the Disney Store on Oxford Street. There’s a massive amount of Stitch plush toys. Sadly Gabi can’t find the Christmas tree decorations and the figure that she had seen on the internet. Then it’s time for lunch. In [Weiterlesen]

Tuesday, 17 September 2024: Covent Garden, cloudy

Today we drive into the city centre to go shopping. We really enjoy the route into London. We see the skyscrapers of Canary Wharf, the Shard and the Walkie Talkie building, drive past Tower Bridge and the Tower of London and then along the Thames, with a beautiful view of the London Eye. We then go around the Admiral Nelson Column in Trafalgar Square and [Weiterlesen]

Monday, 16 September 2024: Driving across London

Today we leave Taunton and start the last leg of our holiday trip to England. We’ll spend the next few days in London before returning home on Friday. It’s a three-hour drive to the Westfield White City shopping centre in the west of London. Here we want to recharge LucY’s battery, and also visit a restaurant and a shop that are only available here. We [Weiterlesen]

Sunday, 15 September 2024: Pie in Bristol

Unfortunately, Ollie doesn’t have time to meet us. She is currently preparing for important exams and needs every minute to study. We understand that, of course. But we head to Bristol anyway. I had been looking forward to a pie from Pieminister and the Wallace & Gromit shop in the shopping centre on the outskirts of the city for a long time. The journey takes [Weiterlesen]

Saturday, 14 September 2024: Taunton Twilight

Today we take it easy and explore a few shops at our leisure. Here, too, the Halloween stuff is already out everywhere, some of it even Christmas items. After the huge hobby market, where I would have loved to buy everything straight away, other shops have great furniture and furnishings, probably five times as much as all the Swiss shops, and other great and sometimes [Weiterlesen]

Friday, 13 September 2024: Dunster Castle

After Dunster Castle was closed on our last trip, we make another attempt to visit the beautiful castle today. We’re luckier today – and again we’re spoiled with the warm and sunny weather. And even the drive to Dunster is a pleasure. Then we arrive, standing in front of the imposing building. A small passageway takes us to the back of the castle and its [Weiterlesen]
