(Gabi) Yay, another day, another theme park! Today we visited Universal Studios Hollywood. In contrast to Universal Studios Orlando, which is only a theme park, this is also a working studio with 30 sound stages and a big backlot. Shows like the Mindy Project are currently being filmed there. Mandatory sign selfie. They’ve recently opened a Wizarding World of Harry Potter extension, which is a [Weiterlesen]
(Gabi) Today was another Disney day and this one was particularly exciting because we went to California Adventure, a park that is unique to California. It represents the different regions of the State and has a relaxed atmosphere. It certainly helped that this park was less crowded than Disneyland. What makes CA an instant winner is Cars Land. This is the best themed area I [Weiterlesen]
(Gabi) Today was a great day because it was a Disney day!! I know the Disney parks aren’t everybody’s cup of tea but we adore them. Just a nice bit of escapism. Disneyland in Anaheim is particularly exciting because it’s the only park Walt Disney himself got to plan, walk and open. He died before Walt Disney World was finished. Disneyland is 60 years old [Weiterlesen]
(Gabi) Los Angeles has always intrigued me. After all, it’s Hollywood and has been on my TV screen for as long as I can remember. Then there are the people saying L.A. isn’t even worth a brief visit and just all around terrible. So I was interested to see what the fuss is all about. It certainly helped that we  approached Los Angeles from one [Weiterlesen]
The drive down the coast from San Simeon to Oxnard is very picturesque, quiet and paved with food. Our first stop (for a first, super healthy breakfast) was in Cayucos at the Brown Butter Cookie Company. The most delightful little town, which looks like it’s been transported to the coast from the old West. And the bakery is probably one of the friendliest places we’ve [Weiterlesen]
(Gabi) Today was filled with highlights: whale watching and the drive down the pacific coast – something I’ve been planning to do for a good ten years or so. The hotel in Monterey was the first one to include breakfast. I remember that even some years ago, breakfast was almost always included in the regular room rate. Doesn’t matter much to us, however, as we [Weiterlesen]
(Gabi) Today was off to a relaxing start with a quiet and short drive from Santa Cruz to Monterey. The whole area seemed a bit deserted. May clearly is low season so many things (including the famous Santa Cruz boardwalk) appear to be closed. Together with the grey weather, this made for a rather gloomy atmosphere! Our mood was lifted by a drive along the [Weiterlesen]
(Gabi) We had another super geeky day planned because we were heading off to visit Apple headquarters in Cupertino! On the way there we just had to drive by the construction site of the new Apple Campus 2. It looks like an Apple spaceship has landed in the middle of Cupertino and sneaking a little peek was kind of thrilling. Steve Jobs was heavily involved [Weiterlesen]
(Gabi) So, we are massive Apple geeks (as I’ve mentioned before) and love watching a podcast called MacBreak Weekly. It’s just four blokes discussing Mac news but we never miss an episode. I have learnt lot about computers and tech in general by watching that show. So when I found out that the studio is located in the Bay Area and it’s possible to attend [Weiterlesen]
You didn’t think that we were already done with San Francisco, did you? Oh no, we had planned some serious exploring of the city for today. We started the day off by driving around San Francisco for a good 2 hours. There’s a route called ‘Scenic 49 Mile Drive’ which takes you around most of the important views and attractions. It’s very extensive, so we [Weiterlesen]
