4 November 2014: Resting day
Being on holiday is exhausting! That’s why we take a break today. Not from the holidays but from doing lots of stuff. We only drive over to Guildford for some relaxed shopping.
We have a chicken and mushroom pasty for lunch. That’s a convenient invention and food to take away is one of the greatest British inventions. Workers used to take pasties with them and hold the brim in their dirty fingers. They ate the good stuff within the crust and threw the brim away. It’s our first pasty and we liked it a lot.
In the afternoon, it’s pouring with rain. The best time for a visit to the garden centre. We are astonished to see such a huge Christmas section with great things on offer – much better than everything we have in Switzerland. Then, we walk by cute rabbits, mice and guinea pigs who are waiting for new owners. We have a snack at the cafe – millionaire’s short bread and a fresh cream devon bun – before heading over to the crafts section where we find the paper my sister couldn’t buy in Switzerland anymore.
Back at the hotel, we take a nap before I get takeaway dinner from nearby KFC. We watch some Big Bang Theory on TV and catch up on The Apprentice on BBC iPlayer.
