Tuesday, 12 November 2019: Selfridges and a BBQ platter with Ollie
Today we start the day with a breakfast from Pret and then change the hotel room. Because the internet problem hasn’t been solved yet – and we just need the internet as we need the air to breathe. 😉
Then we make our way to Oxford Street. Here we mainly want to visit the department store Selfridges. We have lunch first: Gabi often gets the butter chicken, and I opt for the lasagna.
The Christmas department is already open and once again has very interesting baubles on offer: David Bowie, Anna Wintour, surfboards, garlic, asparagus and much more for anyone who likes to hang them on their tree.
The Christmas toy department is provided by the American chain FAO Schwarz this year, and offers many beautiful shelves and decorations, for example a large Lego piano.
Then we work our way through the different floors, and admire really exciting objects everywhere. We don’t always like them, but they are very special. For example some boots that look like they come straight from “Back to the Future” – they are made from the same colour changing material as Marty McFly’s hat in the future in part II.
In the book department in the basement, we leaf through a really nice Disney film archive book for a long time.
For dinner we meet our friend Ollie at the Red Dog Saloon. Their BBQ offer makes our mouths water! The three of us share three thick pork ribs, three Southern Fried Chicken tenders and 200 grams of brisket. As side dishes, we order Texas Loaded Fries and Mac ‘n’ Cheese. What a feast! The nice evening is over much too fast and we drive back to the hotel with a full stomach.
