Tuesday, 24 October 2017: Afternoon Tea at Fortnum & Mason

On our last day in London so far, we visit our favourite department store, Liberty of London. It’s always worth a visit with its beautifully selected clothes, fabrics, furniture, interiour decoration accessories, jewellery and mach more. The building itself is absolutely stunning. And their Christmas department is always a joy to look through.

We then make our way down Regent Street and past Piccadilly Circus. The new huge screen that replaces the separate ads is almost ready and is being tested at the moment. It can’t take long until it’ll be switched on. Yay! London’s just not the same without the Piccadilly Circus ads.

We intended to go to the Japan Centre that has moved and now has a lift. Which is broken at the moment. That’s disappointing. 🙁 So there’s no sushi or Japanese sweets but just a Five Guys burger for lunch.

We stay in the area and look for the new Crosstown Doughnuts store. Until now, they only sold their donuts at Whole Foods and the best ones were always sold out.

Now, we browse through Waterstones before arriving at Fortnum & Mason, a really old (founded 310 years ago!) department store famous for its tea selection and its picknick hampers. We’re not only here to shop but also to have an afternoon tea.

Gabi orders a classic afternoon tea while I try the savoury option with lobster, game terrine, salmon mayo, a tiny goat cheese and savoury scones. The sandwiches are the same. I quite like my choice, although I keep looking over at Gabi’s sweet top plate.
