6 October 2016: London
Today, we’re driving into London again. Christine’s wishlist contains a view from the Shard and so that’s our first destination.
We park nearby, get tickets and take the three lifts to the top. The view from Europe’s tallest building is really spectacular. Also during daylight – last time, we’ve been here when it was dark outside. The top of the Shard is open. It’s rather cold and you can hear the wind roar around the glass panels. We soon switch to the lower viewing deck.
We get our lunch at the market stalls of Borough Market: Gabi finally gets her Pieminister pie with mash and gravy. Christine goes for a wrap and I try a scotch egg with sweet potato chips. Yummy!!
We stroll along the River Thames for a bit, walk by Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre replica and to the Millennium Bridge and Tate Modern before we turn around.
It’s such a beautiful area of London!
We visit Borough Market again, but now we aim for the market stalls instead of the food stalls.

We take the car and drive into central London, past the London Eye, Big Ben, Trafalgar Square and Piccadilly Circus. It’s a shame that Tower Bridge was closed for renovation and we couldn’t drive over it.
We enjoy a milkshake before hitting the stores of Oxford Street and Regent Street.
It’s slowly getting dark. Oxford Circus at night.
It’s Christine’s last evening over here so we treat her to a proper burger at Five Guys.
After dinner, we walk to Piccadilly Circus. It’s another thing on her wishlist and we surely had to wait until it was dark to really enjoy the view.
We walk back to the car past Leicester Square and Chinatown and drive back to Aldershot.
